Content and  Scientific Merit (60 points)

Introduction:

â—‹ Defines background and importance of research.

â—‹ States objective, and is able to identify relevant questions.

 

Body:

â—‹ Presenter has a scientifically valid argument.

â—‹ Addresses audience at an appropriate level (rigorous, but generally understandable to a scientifically-minded group).

â—‹ Offers evidence of proof/disproof.

â—‹ Describes methodology.

â—‹ The talk is logical.

 

Conclusion:

â—‹ Summarizes major points of talk.

â—‹ Summarizes potential weaknesses (if any) in findings.

â—‹ Provides you with a “take-home” message.

 

Speaking Style/Delivery (20 points)

â—‹ Speaks clearly and at an understandable pace.

â—‹ Maintains eye contact with audience.

â—‹ Well rehearsed (either extemporaneous or scripted presentation).

â—‹ Limited use of filler words (“umm,” “like,” etc.).

â—‹ Speaker uses body language appropriately.

â—‹ Speaker is within time limits.

â—‹ Speaker is able to answer questions professionally.

â—‹ Speaker is dressed appropriately.

 

Audio/Visual (20 points)

â—‹ Graphs/figures are clear and understandable.

â—‹ The text is readable and clear.

â—‹ Audio/Visual components support the main points of the talk.

â—‹ Appropriate referencing of data that is/was not generated by presenter
