Write an answer to the following question. (250 minimum to 300 maximum word count. ) As with your weekly discussions, give specific examples (properly cited with MLA format), and when appropriate, references (again with MLA format) to the terms, materials, and or readings in the course. If outside sources are used, provide a Works Cited list. Be sure that your answer is specific and focused.)

Question 1

Why is there debate about which genre The Woman Warrior might truly belong (memoir, fiction, creative nonfiction)? Explain. (Be sure to make specific examples to the text.)

 

 

Question 2

In The Woman Warrior, the old couple asks the little girl (as Fa Mu Lan) "Do you think you can bear to stay with us for fifteen years?" The main character responds with an immediate question. What is that question and what does her ultimate decision reveal about Fa Mu Lan's character and the values of the culture? (150 word minimum. 200 word maximum.) Cite page number (MLA format) for any specific references you use.

We heard from several voices in literature. Which piece affected you the most? Why? What devices, elements or themes did that author use that evoked that response in you?

(For this question, I want to use a poem "shrapnel shards on blue water" and I will upload the poem.)

(Those are not counted in the word count.) In addition to your response to the question itself, explain why the question struck you as particularly interesting or meaningful.

  2. She uses line breaks very effectively to create surprise and intensity. What are two examples of that?
  3. Beginning in line 55, what does Thuy say survival is based on? What is significant about each thing on that list? Why is “fear” included and what might it refer to? What does she mean by “bury”?
