2. MARKETING CASE STUDY - (50 Points)

You are a marketing consultant and you work in the technology industry. Today you are having lunch with Jim Williams, the owner of a new restaurant. He has been in the food industry for over 20 years with several restaurant start-ups in the past. But now he has a problem and he wants to discuss it with you. So after having coffee he explains that many of customers have been asking him why he does not incorporate more Internet related technology as a part of his marketing strategy. But he explains that the internet is not what his restaurants are about. He further explains that he has been doing this for 20 years, and has always focused on the basics like press releases, surveys and focus groups, brand development, target marketing, print and television ads. “I have always promoted my business the old fashion way and I see no reason to change now.” I think people are still reading the newspaper and listening to music on the radio so why change now?

What would you recommend to Jim Williams? He wants to remain competitive in the market place but is currently losing business. In your opinion should Jim Williams change his marketing approach? If so in what way?
