This module is intended for students who want to understand how to develop and grow a new business, social enterprise or apply their skills to an existing business with which they are familiar  (a family business or an SME).

This module will help students to identify ways in which a business can optimise its operation to become more efficient and ready for growth. Using a range of case-studies, the student will learn how to optimise performance of a micro/small enterprise for its long term growth and development.

The module will explore topics such as E-Business, including: e-commerce, e-operations, e-communication and mobile business tools, along with sources of funding for innovation and development. A range of measurements and indicators will be identified enabling the impact of any potential solution to be quantified to support business decision making and aid business growth. Global opportunities and financial optimisation is also included in this module.

LO 1

critically evaluate the role of  E-Business and the various applications of doing business electronically;

LO 2

write a formal development plan for a new business or social enterprise;

LO 3

Critically appraise the opportunities for a small business to operate internationally.
