For this assignment -- worth 5 points -- I would like you to create a one-page formal outline of your essay on fiction. It should be modeled on the style/type of outline mentioned in "Week 1" module. (You can also use the alphanumeric sample outline found on the OWL page as a model.)
Your outline must include:
- A one-sentence thesis.
- At least 3-4 sections of big ideas
- Some details, examples listed within those sections
- Evidence of your use of sources, both the textbook and other sources
An outline does not need to include a conclusion (at this point).
Please remember to write enough in your outline so that the reader -- your classmates and I -- can clearly understand what you're talking about. You only need one complete sentence in the outline (the thesis); the rest should be phrases that are long enough to be understood.
By the way, I'm having you share your outlines with other people because that's less scary than sharing your completed essays, or so students have told me. Also, as you clarify your thinking in your outline, then your writing in your essay will be much better.
One last thing. Since this is an essay on fiction, to help your reader understand what you're talking about, please specify where the reader can find it -- what page numbers the story is on. Thanks.
