Interview a licensed school psychologist, behavior specialist or resource teacher that is currently practicing in either an elementary or middle school. Your interview should research the student development and educational psychology in their practice, theories of development (cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical) for students in varying stages of growth, and their perspective of methodologies and philosophies that are integrated in their practice.

 

Below is a list of questions to ask the school psychologist/behavioral specialist:

 

  1. What methods and philosophies apply to the age/grade in which you are currently practicing?
  2. How are these methodologies and philosophies integrated in your current practice?
  3. How does development (cognitive, linguistic social, emotional, and physical) differ depending upon the student’s age? Compare and contrast the development from 1st-5th grade OR 6th-8th grade.
  4. What is the ratio of students to school psychologists, behavior specialists, or resource teachers in your school, and how do you balance your role?
  5. Can you explain the collaboration you have with the teachers, professionals, and stakeholders in your school?
  6. What would you want teachers, other professionals, and stakeholders to know about the best way they can utilize their school psychologists, behavior specialists, and/or resource teachers?

 

Ask 2-3 additional questions and follow-up questions as appropriate.

 

In 250-500 words, summarize and reflect upon your interview. Research and identify the methods and philosophies used in the classroom and the theories they are based on. Describe the development (cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical) of the ages/grades of your interview. Explain how you will use these findings in your future professional practice. Include three resources to support your summary
