In sections 6 and 7 of Comparative Politics: Concepts & Cases in Context.  institutions of horizontal (across government) and vertical (between government and society) accountability. Every country tries to ensure that the democratic principles of political equality (mostly through horizontal accountability) and public control (mostly through vertical accountability) are realized. But how they do that varies greatly. In this essay, choose ONE of the non-Western democratic case studies from the text book (Nigeria, India, Brazil, Japan, or Mexico) and describe how they realize democratic principles through institutions of horizontal and vertical accountability. 1,500 words
