Introduction

Search warrants are a Fourth Amendment requirement when conducting searches and seizure if the owner does not give permission. During police investigations, it is commonplace to search for evidence and/or seize evidence. However, in order to search for and/or seize this evidence, law enforcement officials must show they have probable cause and may be required to complete a Search Warrant Affidavit to search for and/or seize the evidence needed.

Read the Search Warrant Facts Handout (ATTACHED). Using those facts, complete the Search Warrant Affidavit (ATTACHED) for an application for a search warrantYou may need the Certificate of Analysis Handout (ATTACHED) and the Baker Criminal Record Handout (ATTACHED) in order to document the facts that you assert in the Affidavit. You may also want to reference the Search Warrant Affidavit Drafting Handout (ATTACHED) to assist with your development of this assignment.
