ASSESMENT TASK 2

RESEARCH AND VISUAL ESSAY

UNDERSTANDING SUBCULTURES

BREIF STARTS ON PAGE 5 OF THE PDF NAMED 2017_DC2_Subject Outline.pdf

Write a visual design essay that shows your understanding of cultures and sub cultures

Your essay should use design language and terminology relevant to your area of research.

PART A |

This project requires that you research the area you have been allocated and provide a written analysis of either A or B (1200 words 10% variance allowed).

A | SUB-CULTURES

  • An overview of the movement explaining its origins, advocates, time-span, social impacts and design impacts
  • What are the key design codes from that movement that have an ongoing influence as a creative reference
  • Provide examples as to how those codes and design concepts have been referenced by other creative practitioners.

Do not worry about Part B and C.

Just focus on Part A. With Part A talk about Option A so ‘Sub cultures’.

I will be Completing part B. Although everything that is written in part A is what I need to complete part B, So basically the information develop In Part A should form a visual essay that translates ideas from the movement/issue into contemporary design outcomes

  • mood concepts – key codes translated from idea to outcome
  • potential market profile – who would the customer be?
  • colour palette
  • material / textures
  • silhouettes / shapes
  • product direction – what would the outcomes look like?

All the points listed above are mood boards which is what I will be doing. So all of those points need to be spoken about or included very clearly in PART A in order for me to make the mood boards based of what you have written.
