Instructions for Personal Reflection Paper (Due: )
Our families, cultures, and faith traditions are all factors that influence our views of psychology. Likewise, a deeper understanding of psychological principles can in turn influence and shape our personal values. In your reflection papers, you are to examine a particular personal opinion and then compose a 5-7 page paper discussing how your faith perspective and psychology might address it. ***ALL papers need to utilize Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced, free of grammatical and spelling errors, APA format (no abstract needed), and are thoughtfully written. Utilize the writing center if necessary.
This assignment should consist of essentially three parts:
Briefly describe a specific personal opinion (e.g., moral value; observation; a particular opinion; etc.) *1-2 page in length (see above note **).
Consider the issue from two perspectives.
*2-3 pages in length (see above note **)
Briefly summarize where these two perspectives overlap and/or where they might differ.
*2 pages in length
When discussing your faith perspective, please provide an outside source (e.g., a particular religious passage, book, essay, etc.) and use references when possible (e.g., John; Nietzsche, 1954; etc.). Likewise, when referencing a particular psychological principle, please provide a brief definition and reference.*
Remember, this assignment is designed to help crystallize your thoughts and so, having concrete references are important in doing so. Of course, this is also designed to provide you with an opportunity to express strong personal reflection and as such, I would also encourage you to share how you feel, not just what you think. Sometimes our thoughts and feelings align. Sometimes they don’t.
(there is a valuable skill in being able to exercise brevity in expressing your thoughts).
Papers will be graded on:
* When citing a particular source, please provide a list of references in APA format.
