Project #211439 - Sacred Text

Due By (Pacific Time) 11/12/2017 11:00 pm

Write a response paper to a sacred text including a summary of a 20-25 page section of a sacred text of your choosing, followed by your own assessment of this text and how you see it influencing or guiding adherents to a particular faith tradition.

Please choose a sacred text other than (Catholic) one you are most familiar with. The idea of this assignment is to look outside our own backgrounds and belief systems to grasp a deeper understanding and respect for a different tradition.

Paper should be 2-3 pages.

For example, if you are not of the Jewish faith, you could write on a portion of the Torah, what Christians call the first five books of the Old Testament of the Christian Bible, if you are familiar with the Old Testament. Since we are studying Buddhism this week, you could also easily choose to discuss the Lotus Sutra for Buddhism.

A sacred text or scripture is a body of writing that has inspired and serves as a central guide or anchor for a religious tradition or practice.

Please be sure to properly cite (of course!) and make sure it is a primary source - meaning not another scholar or writer's summary, overview, or response.
